Mini Pigs In a Blanket

Mini pigs in a blanket are one of those quick and easy snacks I make from time to time for my family. They’re made with puff pastry and cocktail franks, and they come out golden, flaky, and fun to eat! While hotdogs or franks should only be enjoyed occasionally as a treat, this recipe is a simple and exciting way to make snack time special.

These are perfect as finger food for kids’ birthday parties, picnic treats, or even playdate snacks. The best part? You only need a few ingredients, and the prep is easy enough to get the kids involved too! Whether you’re feeding a hungry crowd or just making a fun weekend snack, these mini pigs in a blanket are always a hit.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 16 cocktail franks or mini hot dogs
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

For Dipping (optional but highly recommended!)

  • My favorite: Kewpie mayonnaise + Dijon mustard (just mix equal parts)
  • Kid favorite: Ketchup

How to Make It

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). If you are not using a non-stick baking pan, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the puff pastry: Cut the puff pastry into 32 small rectangles.
  3. Wrap the franks: Roll each hot dog in a puff pastry strip, making sure the ends overlap slightly. Press them together gently to lock the pastry closed so it doesn’t open while baking.
  4. Add flavor and crunch: Mix the melted butter with garlic powder and brush over each wrapped frank. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  5. Bake: Arrange seam-side down on your lined tray and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
  6. Tip: Hotdogs will expand a bit as they cook, so don’t wrap too tightly!

Serve with dips: Let cool slightly and serve with your favorite dipping sauce. I love Kewpie + Dijon, and my son always reaches for ketchup!

Extra Tips

  • Make sure your puff pastry is well sealed—if it’s not sticking, dab a little water on the edge.
  • Want to make them ahead? Assemble and keep in the fridge until ready to bake.
